Cardiff MET have been reshaping their squad during the summer transfer window, which closed at 23:00 BST on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. The club's activity comes as they hold fourth place in the Cymru Premier with 12 points from six matches.
According to league rules, the summer window for the Cymru Leagues opened on 15 June 2026. Cardiff MET were among several clubs, including Flint Town United, Barry Town United and Haverfordwest County, noted for being active in rebuilding their teams. The 2026/27 season kicked off over the weekend of 31 July to 2 August, and Cardiff MET's form of four wins and two losses has yielded a positive goal difference of nine, having scored 16 and conceded seven.
The summer deadline has now passed, but clubs can still add free agents to their squads if the player was unattached before the window shut. The next opportunity for transfers will be the winter window. It is scheduled to open on Friday, 1 January 2027 and will close at 23:00 GMT on Monday, 1 February 2027.
This structure is designed to give clubs a mid-season chance to adjust their squads. For fans tracking potential new arrivals, the club's official squad page provides the latest roster information.
A significant registration rule introduced by the Football Association of Wales in July 2025 allows Cymru Leagues clubs to sign Work Experience Players. Each club can register a maximum of two such players per season. A scholar can only undertake work experience with one club in a single campaign.
Under Rule 69 (B), clubs can register these players from Wales’ four EFL clubs: Cardiff City, Newport County, Swansea City and Wrexham. The registration is for a maximum of 90 days, which does not have to be continuous but can be split across two separate periods. Clubs can register Work Experience Players at any point up until the last Thursday in March.
Movement was not limited to Cardiff MET. Penybont secured the signing of Jonathan Leko from MK Dons and added Ryan Hill, Max Melbourne, Liam Shephard and Tyler Walker to their squad. The New Saints brought in Rhys Hughes from Connah’s Quay Nomads, Brad Young from Caernarfon Town, Zach Nolan from Ballymena United and Dynel Simeu from Oldham Athletic.
Caernarfon Town themselves strengthened with Ben Nash, Jordan Piggott, Noah Edwards, Sion Bradley and Chris Marriott. Considerable activity was also noted in the Cymru North and Cymru South as clubs built squads to challenge for promotion or avoid relegation.
With the transfer business concluded for now, focus turns fully to on-field matters. Cardiff MET's next challenge is a home fixture against Penybont on 30 October 2026. Supporters can view the full schedule on the club's fixtures page. The team's current record of 4W-0D-2L provides a solid platform as they aim to maintain their top-four position.
