Cardiff MET fought back with ten men to earn a 1-1 draw away to Flint Town United in the Cymru Premier on Friday. A second-half penalty from Jack Veale cancelled out an early opener from the hosts after a red card for captain CJ Craven changed the game's complexion.
Isaac Modi gave Flint the lead inside the first minute, scoring his first goal for the club. Cardiff MET's task grew harder when Ben Woollam was shown a straight red card for a foul on Fumpa Mwandwe. The visitors levelled just before the hour mark after Veale converted from the penalty spot.
Craven sees red
Cardiff MET captain CJ Craven was then sent off later in the match, leaving both teams to finish with ten players each. The double dismissal halted Flint's push for a winner and allowed the Archers to see out the game for a point.
The result means Cardiff MET remain seventh in the Premier League table with 14 points from eight games. Their recent form reads two wins, two draws and one loss from the last five outings.
This draw extends Cardiff MET's unbeaten run to three matches in all competitions, following a 2-2 draw with Cambrian & Clydach and a 5-0 win at Ammanford. The team has scored 19 goals while conceding 10 so far this season. The current standings show they are eight points behind leaders The New Saints.
Manager Christian Edwards told reporters his side showed resilience after the setbacks. "We had to dig deep after the red cards and showed good character to get something from the game," he said. The point on the road keeps Cardiff MET in touch with the top half as they prepare for the visit of Penybont next month.
