BBC Wales to Broadcast Cymru Premier Games Live
BBC Cymru Wales has agreed a new broadcasting deal with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) that will see at least 20 live games from the Cymru Premier league broadcast each season for the next three years. The agreement, which runs until 2029, includes extensive coverage updates available on BBC Sport Online.
The first match to be shown live on BBC iPlayer is set for August 15th when Barry Town United takes on Cardiff Met. Another game, Ammanford versus Connah's Quay Nomads, will follow on August 22nd. Carolyn Hitt, head of sport at BBC Wales, stated that the deal strengthens their commitment to providing live coverage of Welsh football and follows recent announcements about broadcasting all Uefa Wales men’s international games up until Euro 2028.
Revamped Cymru Premier League
The Cymru Premier league, established in 1992, is celebrating its 35th edition with a revamped schedule. Games will now predominantly be played on Fridays, and the number of clubs has increased from 12 to 16 after the promotion of Llandudno, Airbus UK, Holywell Town, Trefelin BGC, Cambrian United, and Ammanford.
Jack Sharp, head of domestic leagues at FAW, expressed his delight over the BBC's return to Welsh domestic football through this new partnership. He noted that the agreement represents a significant step in growing the profile of the Cymru Premier league, enabling it to reach more supporters across Wales and the wider UK through increased free-to-air coverage.
The deal also doubles the free live broadcast offering compared to last season, with both Cymru Football TV and free-to-air broadcasts working together to serve different audiences. Sharp emphasized that the BBC's commitment will play a crucial role in increasing awareness of the league, attracting new audiences, and supporting the wider ambition to continue growing the game.
